What are the Pharyngoplasty?
It is a surgical procedure to change the shape or the faction of the pharynx (throat)

Why did my doctor recommend Pharyngoplasty?
Your doctor will discuss with you the decision for Pharyngoplasty and may offer the procedure in case of snoring, sleep apnoea.
Pharyngoplasty usually includes removing of the tonsils. Pharyngoplasty can be done alone or as apart of other surgery (snoring surgery)
How is Pharyngoplasty procedure done?
It is done under general anesthesia through the mouth, no external cuts, by using suture and heat with low temperature (monopolar or bipolar) to control bleeding, a suture may be added to the area of the tonsil after removing it, it will take 1.5-2 hours with one-night admission
What to expect after your surgery?
Sever pain is expected after surgery and may increase in the first 5-7 days
Pain may radiate to your ears
You may notice snoring in the first few days
White patch may cover the surgical site in the first few weeks


You may notice a strange smell from the mouth in the first week
You may notice small suture in the throat, it will dissolve spontaneously
You will stay in the hospital for 1-2 days after surgery for observation
Written card with your appointments will be given before you go home.
At Home:
Take your medication on time (especially pain medication)
Sleep in a normal position
Food on room temperature or lower
You can eat a normal diet Drink lots of fluid (you can adjust your diet as you tolerate)
Drink fluid mainly after meals, before sleep and early morning
Avoid spicy food and hard sharp food (as nuts and chips)
You can drive normally unless you feel dizzy and unsteady
Avoid heavy exercise in the first 2 weeks
Avoid contact with a patient having flue
